Minnesota's Oldest and Largest

4th of July Parade

Attended by thousands from across the upper midwest, the state's oldest and largest 4th of July parade begins at the Delano High School at 10:30 AM. This year, the 2 mile parade route winds through the heart of the city at ends near the Ridgeview Medical Center.

Hundreds of floats, clowns, horses, and other entries are sure to please all in attendance.

The Grand Marshal of the 2008 Parade is Miss Delano 1968 Margaret (Cedergren) Vaughan!

This year's parade will showcase Marching Bands from: Delano High School, Lakeville South High School, Lakeville North High School, St. Michael-Albertville, and the Leadership Team from the University of Minnesota Marching Band!

One float each year is also honored with the Bill Diem Memorial Chairman's Award. Given by his family in honor of the Celebration Chair for 30 years, the award is given by the family to the best float in the parade. Past awards have gone to:
2004 - Delano American Legion; 2005 - Delano Royalty; 2006 - Maple Grove Royalty; 2007 - Princeton Royalty.

Due to the great attendance this parade enjoys each year, roads into the parade route close at 10:00 AM. There are parking areas in the center of town, and in the lots near the city park. Get there early, enjoy a breakfast barbecue, and celebrate the 4th of July in style!

Be sure to make a day of it. Enjoy the parade, then head down to Central Park to enjoy GoldStar Amusements, the final rounds of the baseball and softball tournaments, enjoy a world famous 4th of July burger or two, and dance to the music under the big top. Come back on the 5th for the Fireworks display to cap a fabulous 4th of July celebration for the entire family!
